Getting started

Getting started with GPTree

What GPTree is, how Branch, Compare, and Merge fit together, and exactly what to do in your first five minutes. Free to start, no card required.

GPTree is a place to have conversations with AI, built around one idea: a conversation shouldn't have to be a single straight line.

If you've used an AI chat tool before, you know the feeling. You're ten messages into something useful, you ask one exploratory question, and suddenly the whole thread is about the tangent. The good part is buried. In GPTree you'd branch instead: split off a side path to chase the tangent while the original conversation stays exactly where you left it.

Everything else builds on three verbs. Branch splits a conversation so you can try another direction. Compare puts two answers next to each other. Merge brings the best result back into the main path.

Your first five minutes

Signing up is free and the Free plan never asks for a card. Once you're in, you'll land on the Dashboard. Two buttons matter right now: "New Chat" starts a conversation, and "Create Project" makes a folder for related work. Ignore projects for today.

Click "New Chat" and ask a real question, the kind you'd ask any AI: dinner ideas, a tricky email, a bug you're stuck on, whatever's actually on your mind. GPTree works with models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, and more, and you can switch models mid-conversation once you're comfortable. Don't worry about any of that yet.

When a reply lands that's worth poking at, hover over it. A small Branch icon appears (every AI response has one). Click it, and a new pane opens beside your conversation, starting from that exact message. Ask your side question there. Your original thread hasn't moved an inch.

The tree, and the Guide

On the left, a sidebar draws your conversation as a tree, one node per branch, and clicking any node jumps you straight to that branch. With one conversation it looks sparse. Give it a week.

You're not on your own in there, either. The GPTree Onboarding Guide is an assistant inside the app that teaches GPTree by working with you. Its welcome message leads with a few one-tap starters ("Draft or edit something", "Think through a decision", "Work through some code", or "Show me what GPTree can do"), so you can begin with a single click even if you have no idea what to type first. Pick one, or just describe what you are working on. From there the Guide does the actual work with you, and when your task hits a real fork in the road it opens a branch beside your conversation that is already exploring the other option, so the first branch you ever see is one that saved you effort. There's also an onboarding checklist, plus short guided tours (one called "Your First Conversation" covers your first message and your first branch).

Our free plan includes a ton of features and access to some top models. It includes branching, a limited set of models, and 2,000 credits a month (credits are what AI usage runs on; premium models use more of them). Comparing branches side by side and merging are Pro features, so try them out during your trial and grow your tree.

So here's your next step: click "New Chat", ask the question that's actually on your mind today, and when the answer sparks a side thought, hover the reply and click Branch.
