Getting started

Find your way around GPTree

A tour of the screen you sign in to. What Home shows, what the left rail and the panel beside it do, where Settings and Help live, and how the same layout folds onto a phone.

The header

The hamburger on the far left collapses or opens the panel, and the wordmark beside it takes you Home. Inside a conversation the middle holds the project switcher, which jumps to another project's conversations or moves this one into a project. On the right: the voice control when voice is available to you, the Help menu ("?"), the notifications bell, and your avatar. The avatar's menu is short on purpose: light or dark theme, Account, and Logout.

The left rail

Top to bottom: the New button, a "+" that starts a conversation with an arrow beside it ("More ways to start") that opens the Start menu, then Home, Conversations, Agents, Personas, Knowledge, Shared with me, and Memory, each an icon that shows its name when you point at it. At the foot sits the Settings gear, with an Admin entry above it for administrators and the learning journey button while you are working through it.

An item with a small lock is one your plan does not include yet. It stays visible so you know it exists, and clicking it opens the upgrade page rather than an error.

The panel beside the rail

This is the part that changes. On Home it holds a search field for your whole account, your projects (pinned first, then the most recent, then "All projects" for the full nested list), your pinned conversations, and the Discord community link at the foot. Inside a conversation it becomes the branch tree, one node per branch. In Settings it lists the four settings groups. The hamburger in the header collapses it when you want the width back.

Home

Home is the screen you land on. The start bar is at the top: type what you are working on and press "Start", or use the arrow beside it to start from a document, open a blank document, hand a task to an agent, or make a project. Click into the bar and it opens up into the same message box a conversation has, with the model and persona pickers, file attachments, web search, "Add Context" and "Explore multiple", so the new conversation starts exactly the way you set it up. Under the bar, a single short lesson card points at the next thing worth learning (your first branch, then comparing branches, then merging), and you can dismiss it.

"Where you left off" lists the conversations you touched most recently, one line each: the title, the branch or project it belongs to, and how long ago. "View all" opens the Conversations page, which lists everything with its own search for titles and messages, tabs for Pinned, Branched and Docs, and a project menu that narrows it to one project or to "Not in a project". Below that, an Agents section lists your agents with their status; on the Free plan it is a one-line description with an "Unlock agents" link.

The right column is for glancing: anything an agent is waiting on you for ("Needs you", where "Answer" or "Review" opens the reply box or the approve and reject choice right there), a usage meter for the month, one card about your plan (a trial countdown, a streak, or an upgrade, whichever applies), and links to the desktop and phone apps. On a narrower window everything stacks into one column, and "Needs you" moves up to sit right under the start bar.

Settings and Help

The Settings gear opens a hub with four groups. You (profile, password, privacy, deleted conversations, appearance). AI workspace (AI providers, personas, context from the desktop app). Connections (Connect tools, machines, and the ChatGPT import). Organisation (team members, invites, usage, billing, promotion). Every settings page you might have hunted for before is one of these rows.

The Help menu ("?") holds the FAQ, keyboard shortcuts, "Report an issue or send feedback", "Contact us", and the Discord community. On plans with priority support it adds "Chat with the founder", and while you are in the guided tours it adds "Tutorials and learning journey".

Two shortcuts are worth learning on day one: Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) opens search from anywhere, and so does "/" when you are not typing in a field.

On a phone

A bar along the bottom of the main screens holds Home, Chats, New, Agents, and Menu, with the count of anything your agents are waiting on shown on Agents; inside a conversation it steps aside. Menu opens a drawer where the rail and the panel fold together. At the top is a full-width "New conversation" button, with an arrow beside it that opens the Start menu (start from a document, a blank document, an agent task, or a project). Under it, the rail's destinations sit as a row of tiles, then What's new as a single line with a star (marked New when something has shipped since you last looked), and the current screen's panel is underneath. Home's projects and search, or a conversation's branch tree, are one tap away, and the phone app is the same app, signed into the same account, with the same layout. The header has no room for the question mark, so Help moves into your avatar's menu: tap Help there and it opens into the same list, minus the keyboard shortcuts.

That is the whole map. Everything else in GPTree, branching, comparing and merging included, happens inside a conversation, and you now know how to get to one from anywhere.
