Tidy up your workspace with the Landscaper

The Landscaper finds empty conversations, empty untitled documents and branches you have stopped using, and shows you the list before anything goes. The only thing GPTree clears on its own is a conversation that has sat empty for 30 days.

Branching makes it cheap to try things, so a workspace fills up. Some of what piles up is empty: a conversation you opened and never wrote in, or a document you created with New document and never typed into. Some of it is finished: a branch you explored weeks ago and never came back to.

The Landscaper finds both kinds and lets you decide what goes.

Running it

Open Landscaper in the sidebar and click Run Landscaper. This only looks. Nothing is removed yet.

You get two lists.

Empty Items are conversations with no messages and untitled documents with nothing in them. Review the list, then click Remove and confirm. Only the items on that list are removed. If one of them gained a message after you ran the check, it is left alone.

Suggested Branch Deletions are branches that have messages but look finished: branches with nothing under them that have not changed for the number of days you set (30 by default), and branches whose parent conversation was deleted. Tick the ones you want gone, click Delete selected and confirm. Use Review to open a branch in a new tab first.

What is never offered for removal

The Landscaper is deliberately cautious about empty conversations. It skips anything that:

  • was created or changed in the last 24 hours,
  • is pinned,
  • is shared with someone else,
  • is part of an agent, a meeting, a task or a crew run,
  • has a document attached to it, unless that document is empty too.

An empty conversation at the top of a tree is only offered when everything under it is empty too. An empty branch in the middle of a tree can go, and the branches under it move up so they stay where you can find them.

Documents are only offered when they still have the default title ("Untitled" or "Untitled document"), have no content, and have no chat in them. If you renamed a document, the Landscaper treats it as a draft you meant to keep.

What GPTree clears on its own

Once a day, GPTree removes conversations that have no messages and have not been touched for 30 days. You do not have to run anything.

It follows the same rules as the list above, so a pinned or shared conversation, or one that belongs to an agent, a meeting, a task or a crew run, is never removed this way. Neither is anything with a message in it: a branch you have written in stays until you delete it yourself, however old it is. Documents are never removed automatically either.

Getting something back

Removed conversations and branches go to Deleted Conversations (the button at the top of the Landscaper page, or Account, Deleted Conversations). You can restore them there for 30 days. That includes empty conversations GPTree cleared on its own.

Empty documents removed by the Landscaper are not listed on that page.

From a chat

You can also ask in any conversation, for example "tidy up my workspace". GPTree runs the same check, tells you what it found, and asks before removing anything.
