How-to guides
Make and manage your personas
A walk through the Personas page. Choose which persona new chats start with, create your own from a blank form or a starting point, and switch built-in personas off so the picker only holds the ones you use.
A persona shapes how the assistant answers: its role, its tone, and what it pushes back on. The Personas page is where you make your own, choose the one new chats start with, and trim the list the composer's picker shows. Open it from Personas on the left rail, or from the Menu drawer on a phone.
Find your way around the page
The panel beside the rail splits the page into four views, each with a count: All, Yours (the ones you made), Built-in (the ones every account gets), and Hidden (built-ins you have switched off). Under the views sits "How personas work", which brings back a short side-by-side showing the same question answered by two different personas. That explainer also shows on its own until you make your first persona, and you can close it with the cross.
On a phone the same views sit as a row of chips at the top of the page.
Choose what new chats start with
The "New chats start with" box near the top holds a dropdown of every persona you can use: Default, then your own, then the built-ins that are switched on. Whatever you pick there is what a new chat opens with, and it carries a Default badge in the lists below. You can still switch persona for any single message from the picker in the composer. Hovering a row also shows "Set as default", which does the same thing in one click.
Picking Default puts you back on the standard assistant.
Make your own
Press "New persona" at the top of the page. Give it a name, an optional short description (it shows under the name in the persona picker), and the instructions it should follow. If a blank box is the hard part, "Design one with AI" drafts the instructions from a sentence or two about what you want; the draft lands in the form for you to adjust before you save.
Before you have any of your own, the Your personas section offers three starting points: Harsh editor, Explain like I'm new, and Our brand voice. Each one opens the same form already filled in, so you can read it, change it, and save it. Nothing is created until you press Create.
On the Free plan you can keep one persona of your own. The built-in ones never count toward that limit.
Edit, duplicate or delete
Each of your personas has an Edit button, and a "more" menu beside it with Duplicate and Delete persona. Duplicate opens a new form holding a copy of that persona's name, description and instructions, which is the quickest way to make a variation. Delete asks you to confirm first. If the persona you delete was the one new chats start with, new chats go back to Default.
Switch built-ins off
Every built-in persona except Default has a switch. Turn one off and it leaves the persona picker in your conversations. Nothing is deleted, the change is yours alone, and the Hidden view lists everything you have switched off so you can turn it back on. Default stays on because it is what the assistant uses when a message carries no persona at all.
