How to track credit usage and top up

Trace any charge back to the exact message that caused it, buy top-up packs from $5 that never expire, or upgrade to Pro when the monthly allowance runs short.

Credits are what GPTree spends when a model answers you, and two places show where they go. Home carries a small usage meter: this month's allowance against what you have used, with any purchased balance on its own line and an "Upgrade plan" button underneath while you are on Free or a trial. The full picture is the Usage page: "View usage" on that card opens it, and so does Settings > Organisation > Usage (the gear at the foot of the left rail opens Settings). It shows credits over time, a breakdown by model, and a Run Ledger listing every request. Usage is based on the model used: premium models use more credits than lighter ones, so the same question can cost a different amount depending on what you ask it with. When something feels expensive, the Run Ledger is where you find out why.

Tracing a charge back to the message

Every row in the Run Ledger says what it was for. The Type column separates messages you sent from work GPTree ran for you, such as a branch summary or a scheduled agent, and anything automatic is labelled as such so it does not read as your own typing. The Conversation column links straight to the thread.

Click a row and a panel opens with the question that was asked, the start of the reply, the model, the input and output tokens, and the credits charged. "Open this message" takes you to that exact message in the conversation and highlights it. Rows that came from background work have no message to open, so they say so rather than leaving you with a dead link.

Some rows are not priced per token. An image is priced per image, and a Live voice session is priced by time, so those show the basis instead of a token count that would read as zero.

Your monthly allowance depends on plan: Free includes 2,000 credits a month, Pro 10,000, and Team 25,000 per user. (The pricing page always carries the current numbers, so treat it as the authority if these ever drift.)

Topping up without changing plans

Credit packs exist for the months you run hot. Three sizes:

  • 2,000 credits for $5
  • 5,000 for $10 (save 20%)
  • 30,000 for $50 (save 33%)

Packs never expire and roll over month to month, and buying one doesn't touch your plan. So if you're generally fine on your allowance but one project ate it by the 20th, a pack is the fix, not an upgrade. Unused pack credits just wait for you.

When upgrading is the better buy

If you're buying packs every single month, look at the next plan up instead. Pro's 10,000 monthly credits come with the features Free doesn't have: all models, unlimited branches and conversations, compare and merge, export, and BYOK. At that point you're paying for headroom anyway, so you may as well get the features with it.

The upgrade itself is quick: open the Billing page, hit "Upgrade to Pro", and go through Stripe checkout. Pro credits and features are active immediately. No waiting for a billing cycle.

One more lever for heavy users: on Pro and Team you can bring your own API keys on the AI Providers page, and usage on those keys is billed through your provider. If you already pay OpenAI or Anthropic directly, that's often the calmest way to run big workloads through GPTree.
