Getting started

Getting help inside GPTree

Where to find help in GPTree, from the Onboarding Guide to in-chat answers with deep links, guided tours, the checklist, the Discord community, and human support by plan.

When you get stuck in GPTree, the fastest help is already inside the app. There are a few layers to it, and knowing which one to reach for saves you a support email you didn't need to write.

The Guide

The GPTree Onboarding Guide is an assistant that teaches GPTree in a slightly unusual way: by using GPTree with you. When you're new, it doesn't lecture and it doesn't run a questionnaire. It asks what you're working on, helps you actually do it, and when your task reaches a genuine fork in the road it opens a side branch that is already exploring the other option while your main thread keeps moving. By the time it names what a branch is, you've already watched one earn its keep. We built it that way on purpose; branching is easier to feel than to explain.

And the Guide doesn't retire after your first day. Keep asking it real questions whenever they come up. Every so often it'll suggest one feature you haven't tried yet. One, not twelve.

Asking in the middle of a conversation

You don't need to go anywhere special to ask a how-do-I question. Ask it right inside whatever conversation you're in ("how do I connect an AI provider?") and GPTree's built-in help answers with a deep link that takes you to the right screen. It covers the everyday territory: branching, merging, changing models, projects, personas, billing and usage, connecting apps, creating agents, themes, and account settings.

This is the one to remember, honestly. Most questions arrive mid-task, and getting the answer mid-task too (with the link) is the difference between a ten-second fix and losing your thread.

Tours and the checklist

For anything you'd rather be shown than told, short guided tours walk through screens step by step: your first conversation, the three ways to branch, Compare and Merge, the Merge Board, importing ChatGPT history, the Chrome extension, personas, billing, memory, and more. There's also an onboarding checklist that tracks what you haven't tried yet, plus a reminder banner that nudges you back toward it. (The banner means well.)

What's new

When a new feature ships, it shows up under What's new: the star at the bottom of the left rail, or the Help menu (the question mark in the header). On a phone it is a line in the menu, just under the tiles. A dot on the star and on the Help button (on a phone, on the menu button) tells you something has arrived since you last looked, and most updates come with a Show me button that runs the matching tour. The same list is public at gp-tree.com/changelog.

The community

Some questions are better answered by someone who has already hit the same wall. The GPTree Discord is free and open on every plan, and you'll find it as "Discord community" at the foot of the side panel and in the Help menu. On a phone, Help is in the menu behind your avatar at the top right. It's a good place for the questions that don't have a documented answer yet: how other people structure their branches, what they merge and what they throw away, and what we're building next.

When you need a human

Some problems aren't how-do-I problems. For those, support depends on your plan, and we'll state it plainly: Free comes with community support (that's the Discord above), Pro comes with email support, and Team gets priority support. So on the Free plan, the in-app help and the community are doing most of the lifting, which is a big part of why we put so much effort into making them good.

Your next step: ask the Guide whatever question is in your head right now, however small it feels. "How do I branch?" is a perfectly good first question. Answering it is literally what the Guide is for.
