# How credits work

Credits meter AI usage in GPTree. What uses them, how many come with each plan, how top-up packs work, and where to see your usage.

Credits are the unit GPTree uses to meter AI usage. Each plan includes a monthly amount, conversations use credits as you talk to models, and you can buy more at any time without changing plans.

## What uses credits

Credit usage is based on the model. Premium models use more credits than lighter ones, so a long session with a top-end model costs more than a quick question to a small one.

We don't publish a per-model rate table in this article, because rates track the model lineup and the lineup changes. What we can point you to is the Usage page (Settings > Organisation > Usage; Home also carries a meter for the month): it shows your credit usage in full, so the practical way to learn your own burn rate is to work normally for a few days and then look at what that actually cost.

## What each plan includes

- Free: 2,000 credits per month
- Pro: 10,000 credits per month
- Team: 25,000 credits per user per month

Those are the current numbers as of this writing; the pricing page always has the authoritative live figures.

## Topping up

Credit packs add credits without a plan change:

- 2,000 credits for $5
- 5,000 credits for $10 (save 20%)
- 30,000 credits for $50 (save 33%)

Pack credits never expire, and they roll over month to month until used. Buying a pack doesn't touch your subscription; it just adds to your balance.

## Using your own API keys instead

On Pro and Team you can connect your own API keys (the AI Providers page handles this). Model usage on your own keys is billed through your provider, with GPTree acting as the workflow and organization layer on top. Heavy users who already have provider accounts often end up on this arrangement.

If a charge or a usage number looks wrong, start with the Usage page under Settings > Organisation, then contact support with what you're seeing.
